1961

Paul J. Rach, Inc. is founded to meet the growing need for curb & gutter contractors. Early projects focus on State Highway and Baltimore County work.

1970

The State Highway Administration begins incorporating Jersey Barrier work into contracts, expanding the company’s capabilities.

1975

The company purchases its first slipform machine for barrier walls and curb & gutter, enhancing efficiency and project capacity. Arthur Hopson is promoted to superintendent, overseeing all field operations.

1976

Joseph T. Spencer is hired as the company's first estimator, helping drive strategic growth and project planning.

1980

Arthur Hopson is promoted to Vice President while continuing as superintendent, reflecting his leadership and expertise in field operations.

1985

With the I-270 widening project, the company adds two more slipform machines. At this time, it operates two machines full-time and a third part-time, with five active crews.

1987

Paul J. Rach retires after more than 25 years leading the company. Arthur Hopson becomes President, and Joseph T. Spencer is promoted to Vice President.

1993

Harry L. Bortner is hired as the company estimator, reinforcing the firm's ability to bid and manage large-scale projects.

1994

Joseph T. Spencer assumes the role of President, with Harry L. Bortner promoted to Vice President. The company continues to expand under their leadership.

2024

Shawn Spencer and Chris Spencer named Vice Presidents at PJR. That year, the company poured over 100k linear feet of barrier wall.

TODAY

Paul J. Rach, Inc. operates with eight crews, maintaining a reputation for quality, precision, and expertise in slipform and hand form construction.
